The veil is thin and the earth is breathing. In May 2026, the cosmos is crowning the UK with a rare "Double Moon" month.
On the very first day of May—rising as the Beltane fires are lit—the Flower Moon arrives. To our ancestors, this was the "Milk Moon" or the "Bright Moon," a time when the sap rises and the land is heavy with the scent of Hawthorn and Bluebells. It is a moon of pure fertility, passion, and the wild, green heat of spring.
In some Celtic traditions, May is the month of the Hawthorn tree (the "May-tree"). Traditionally, the hawthorn is the herald of summer. In the old Julian calendar (used before 1752), May Day fell about 11 days later than it does now, which perfectly aligned with the tree’s peak bloom. It was the essential decoration for Beltane (May 1st), where "bringing in the May" meant gathering flowering hawthorn boughs to decorate the outside of homes for protection and fertility.
Folklore said that the Flower Moon’s light allows the Faerie Folk to cross into our world more easily, especially when the moon peaks during the Beltane celebrations!
The lunar magic doesn't end at Beltane. As May closes on the 31st, we witness a Blue Moon. In the old ways, a second full moon in a month was a "thirteenth" moon—an extra dose of enchantment used for deep manifestation and setting intentions that only come around "once in a blue moon."
How to honour these moons:
🌸 On the 1st: Decorate your space with wildflowers and light a green candle to honor the flourishing Earth. It’s a night for romance and creative fire.
🌕 On the 31st: Use this rare Blue Moon energy to release old patterns. Wash your crystals in the midnight dew or craft "Moon Water" to carry this extra potency into the summer.
Nature is shouting its abundance. Are you listening? 🌿✨
